After-Sales Service: How to Effectively Allocate Hard Drive Space for Industrial PCs

2025-06-03 09:51:50

Industrial PC motherboards frequently experience problems such as insufficient memory or screen freezes, which can be annoying for users.  A common issue is that frequently used partition volumes run out of space, leaving less often used partitions unused.  Effective hard drive space allocation is important to maintaining the smooth operation of industrial PCs.

This guide demonstrates how to partition a 500GB hard drive on an industrial PC motherboard. It is advisable to partition the hard drive into four sections: the system partition (often known as the C drive), the program partition, the file partition, and the entertainment partition. Importantly, do not store programs or text files in the system partition, and leave enough space for system upgrades and normal maintenance. Organizing and managing text files and applications is also necessary.

1. System Partition

The system partition should be approximately 100GB, which is sufficient for most needs. This space is primarily reserved for system upgrades, as Microsoft typically releases monthly updates that must be installed on the system drive. Insufficient space on the system partition, even if other partitions have ample free space, can cause installation failures. Additionally, the system partition requires free space for maintenance tasks, such as creating new user profiles, which also necessitates dedicated space.

2. Program Partition

The program partition should be around 120GB. Programs should not be installed on the system partition but rather on a separate partition to enhance system software reliability. This approach ensures that operational errors or program failures do not cause system crashes. Another advantage is that it simplifies program searches and management.

3. File Partition

The file partition, with a maximum of 120GB per shared volume, is typically used to store critical client file resources. It must be separated from the system partition to prevent file damage in case of system software issues. For clients with stringent enterprise office requirements, the partition size can be increased as needed.

4. Entertainment Partition

The remaining space can be allocated to the entertainment partition, used for storing large files such as movies and video games. In the event of a program crash or system reinstallation, files in this partition are less likely to be affected, ensuring their preservation. For individual users prioritizing media storage, this partition can be expanded accordingly.
